Uttarkashi as the name suggests is the Kashi of the north. Uttarkashi is one of the beautiful town in Uttarakhand, India. It was formed on February 24, 1960. It sprawls in the extreme north-west corner of the state over an area of 8016 sq. kms. in the rugged terrain of the mystic Himalayas. Uttarkashi is 1158 m above from sea level. Uttarkashi is the district headquarters of Uttarkashi district. Its set on the banks of river Ganges. Ganges also known by another name which is Bhagirathi. The name of the town reflects its similarity to and location the city of Kashi (Varanasi). Kashi (Varanasi) is also situated on near Ganges like Uttarkashi. One of the holiest Ghats in Uttarkashi is Manikarnika and Varanasi is also known by this name. Uttarkashi has various ashrams and dharamshalas which are most of the time occupied by the thousands of tourists visiting this place. Some of the important dharamsalas are Gangotri Mandir Dharamshala, Birla Dharamshala, Kali Kamli Daramshala, Kailash Dharamshala, Shivanand Dharamshala. People who visit Uttarkashi make it a point to Gangotri which is 99kms from Uttarkashi.

One of the most popular place in Uttarkashi is Gaumukh. Gaumukh is a place where Bhagirathi River originates, is one of the primary sources of the Ganges River. Visit to the Gangotri Temple is a key attraction of this trek. It is one of the sacred Char Dham of Uttarakhand. Gangotri is the place from where Bhagirathi River descends. Situated at an altitude of 3,048mts above sea level. Gaumukh is the second largest glacier in India with 30kms length and 4kms in width first one is Siachen.
Gaumukh is open for trekkers and visitors from May to October.

2.Kashi Vishwanath Temple:

The kashi Vishwanath temple is located 154kms from Risikesh(Uttrakhand) near the main road which is leading  to Gangotri Dham. Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple is one of the oldest and most sacred of temples in Uttarkashi. It is situated on bank of river Bhagirathi(Gangaes). The temple offers the spectacular view of river Bhagirathi along with the surrounding mountains. There are many shops for puja items. So if you don’t have puja items then no need to worry. You can easily get fresh flowers and pooja related items at nominal prices.
Kashi Vishwanath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is said to that it was founded by Sage Parshuram. In temple there is a Shivlinagm which is 56cm in height and it has a tilt on the south. And there are also Goddess Parvati and lord Ganesha and Nandi is outer chamber of the temple like another temples.

Near Kashi Vishwanath temple there is also another temple which called Shakti temple. Its Dedicated to Goddess Parvati. It is situated just opposite to the Vishwanath temple. In temple there is a huge long and heavy trident(Trishul). It is 6 meters in height.
One amazing feature of the trishul is that it cannot be moved by your entire body force but it can vibrates the moment you apply pressure with one of your finger.

3.Barsu Village:

it’s a medium size village which is located in Bhatwari. There is a small lake in the area and to camp by its side a memorable event. Himalaya has a amazing look from there. This is a 30Kms treks which start from Sangam chatti. There is a lake which name id Dodi Tal. It is arguably one of the most beautiful high altitude lakes of North India it is surrounded by dense forest of oak, pine and deodar. Here you can see many species of birds and colored butterflies. In winters this treks become more difficult due to snow fall.
There is a another place to visit which name is Gidara Bugyal it is situated at 3800 mts above from sea level. Here you can see a golden Himalaya during sunset. That time Himalaya look like a golden mountain.
